Ibanez Semi-Hollow Electric Guitars

The Ibanez name comes from Spain, yet the Ibanez guitarcompany is based in Japan. They started importing Spanish musical instruments in the 1930s, then started manufacturing electric guitars in the rock and roll era of the 1950s. They still produce electric guitars today.

A semi hollow electric guitar is one that combines the overall sound elements of both an acoustic and an electric guitar. The instrument was first developed in the 1950s, during the rock and roll boom of that decade.

It works by having a solid piece of wood running through the centre, so that it can be played like a solid body guitar (eg a Fender Stratocaster), as well as being able to be played without amplification (like an acoustic guitar).

Traditional hollow body electric guitars can suffer from feedback issues when they are electrified, which is not present in the semi hollow body guitar.

The instrument is famous for producing a mellow sound that people often associate with jazz or blues guitar playing.
