Great Britain Postal Stamp Collections & Mixtures

Great Britain Postal Stamp Collections and Mixtures

In Great Britain, postage stamps have been around since 1840. In that time, collectors past and present have amassed great and varied collections featuring stamps from across the eras.

Choose from a range of collections and mixtures featuring the monarchs of the time: Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. Here are two of the most popular periods.

Queen Victoria

As the first postage stamp was created a few years into Queen Victoria's nineteenth-century reign, stamps featuring her likeness are much rarer than stamps produced in the twenty-first century. For this reason, they are highly collectable and eagerly sought after.

There are three types of Victorian postage stamp that developed in line with the technology of the times these are line engraved, embossed and surface printed. The first postage stamp ever printed was called the penny black and was closely followed by the penny blue and penny red.

You can find a range of marked and unmarked individual postage stamps, collections and mixtures in quantities of up to 1,000. Depending on your preference these can be bought loose, or in sheets or albums.

Queen Elizabeth II

As the longest reigning and current British monarch, it's no surprise that the majority of postal stamp collections and mixtures feature Queen Elizabeth II. Take your pick of pre-decimal and decimal currency postage stamps from 1952 to the present day.

Choose from popular themes including nature and wildlife, sport, military history, science and the arts. Quality ranges from mint hinged, hinge remaining and mint never hinged to mint no gum, original gum and no gum.

One of the most common stamp series featuring Queen Elizabeth II is called Machin definitive, which is the collective name for the stamps you can currently buy at the post office. It's been in existence since 1967 and includes the red first class stamps and blue second class stamps as we know them today. You can find postal stamp collections and mixtures of first and second class stamps or combinations of high and low values.
