Portable Over-the-Counter Inhalers

Make Life Easier with a Portable Nebuliser

At home or on holiday, if you suffer a chronic lung condition, life can sometimes be difficult to cope with. Constant shortage of breath and coughing to clear mucus can be debilitating, making normal household chores difficult to cope with and spoiling recreational pursuits. A portable nebuliser from eBay can assist with these problems and help you regain your zest for life.

Can a portable nebuliser be used to administer medication?

Yes, that's what they are designed for. A portable nebuliser machine can be used to administer a number of medications for those suffering various respiratory problems. However, always consult your GP as dosage levels may need to be changed for a nebuliser.

Are there variants of portable nebulisers available?

Yes, there are a number of different portable nebuliser machines which produce their atomised mist in different ways.

  • Ultrasonic nebulisers: In this model the mist is produced by an electronic oscillator generating ultrasonic waves, which in turn generate heavy vibrations. The vibrations against the holding cup turn the liquid into a fine mist which is inhaled by the user.
  • Jet nebulisers: This unit's operating principle is less complicated than the ultrasonic version, but they are a little nosier. In this model a compressor passes high pressure compressed air into the liquid's holding vessel, which then converts the liquid to a mist for inhalation.
  • Vibrating mesh nebulisers: On this model an ultra-fine mesh sits across the top of the liquid cup. When the liquid medication is vibrated it escapes through the minute holes as a mist, to be inhaled into the lungs by the user.

Portable nebulisers are a great aid for those who suffer chronic breathing problems such as Asthma or Emphysema. They are easily carried on days out or holidays, and can be used by both children and adults.

How does a portable nebuliser machine work?

Portable nebulisers are lightweight, and easily held in the hand. In the mains versions, power is obtained from a standard 220v wall socket, then reduced by the built-in transformer to the 12v operating voltage. Nebulisers can also be powered by disposable or rechargeable batteries, and charged through a USB port. Water is added to the main container and liquid, or liquefied medication, added to the medicine cup. Once the liquid or medication begins to atomise, the mask is placed over the nose and mouth, and deep breaths draw in the atomised liquid.
