Gas kilns
Using natural gas and fire to function, gas kilns are different from electric kilns because they use reduction firing, which does not allow oxygen during the process. This helps to create richer, earthy colours, and makes this type of kiln well suited to creating unique pieces, as each round of firing tends to be slightly different.
Wood kilns
Wood kilns are the closest to historical kilns, as they are powered by a constant supply of wood to fuel the fire and create the necessary heat. Although the process is much more hands-on, as these kilns need to be monitored at all times, they can be used to create stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces.
