Livestock are occasionally considered pets and more often cherished investments. One of the most important aspects of responsibly owning and containing livestock of any kind, whether it be horses, cattle, sheep, goats, or other four-legged fur-friends is acquiring and building dependable stock fencing. eBay can help you find the appropriate stock fencing at affordable prices.

First of all, it is important to consider exactly how you wish to contain your livestock. Shopping for stock fencing supplies is a critical component of ranching and/or farming, and it can be a daunting, confusing, and often expensive mission if you have not made yourself familiar with post and wire fencing. The options vary, so here are some various types of fencing you can find on eBay:

• Woven wire: There are various types. There is 1.2 metres woven wire stock fencing or 1.5 metres woven wire stock fencing for horses, cattle, or sheep.
• Barbed wire: This is more often used with cattle or livestock, as cattle are less likely to scar themselves or become entangled.
• Electrical wire: This can be purchased with chargers that emit different strengths. Choose from stainless steel, aluminium, galvanised wire, tape, or rope style wire. Electrified netting is also available, but it is most often used for poultry in order to ward off predators.

As aforementioned, certain types of fencing better accommodate different livestock. For example, horses and sheep are often more "respectful" of electrical wire than are cattle; however, barbed wire is often less desirable for horses because they have a tendency to become entangled in barbed wire to the point of causing scarring and even death. Woven wire is usually most effective with sheep and goats because they are less likely to challenge it, and it is more effective at deterring predators. Woven wire for horses generally has smaller spacing at the bottom of the wire in order to keep horses from entangling their hooves if they tend to paw at it.

Galvanised wire is stainless steel wire that has been coated with a rust-resistant substance (usually zinc) in order to make it more strong, rust-resistant, and multi-purposeful. Effective fencing can be a time- and money-consuming endeavour, so it makes sense that you will want your fence wire to resist rusting and corrosion. Much of the wire available on eBay has been galvanised.

This obviously depends upon the type of fence you are building, but you will also need fence posts, which can be the T-post. This requires clips to attach your woven wire securely. Wooden fence posts are still used, but require what are known as "staples" to straddle the barbed wire or the woven wire. Electric fence obviously requires insulators to be used between the wire and the metal or wooden fence post. eBay has a variety of insulators, T-post clips, staples, and wire to fit your needs.
