Design of the Jordan 15 OG Low Black Silver

The Jordan 14s possess an outsized presence in the history of trainers and basketball culture. When Michael Jordan sank a 20-foot jump shot with 5 seconds left on the clock in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, he clinched the sixth series win in eight years for the Chicago Bulls. It was the last shot of that momentous game, the last shot of the series, and the last shot of his career with the Bulls. It was in every sense the last shot of an era, and Mike made it wearing the Air Jordan 14s in Black/Black-Varsity Red, a colourway that would forever after be known as “Last Shot”.

So important was this moment in the history of both the Jordan line and the history of basketball that Nike has re-released the “Last Shot” colourway more than once – in 2005, 2011, and then again in 2018 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that incredible basket.

Beyond the history-making moment of MJ’s final career basket, the 14s quickly achieved a wild popularity. Just two months after the 14s’ release, Footaction ranked it in position 82 on their list of the 100 best athletic shoes ever produced.

History of Air Jordan 15

In 1998, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to a triumphant championship win over the Utah Jazz, completing his second three-peat. It was a storybook ending to Jordan's illustrious career as a player.

With Jordan bowing out of basketball, many thought the Air Jordan would walk off into the sunset with His Airness, but the brand was entering a new phase. Earlier that year, the Air Jordan line became an independent subsidiary of Nike, and the Jordan Brand was founded with Michael Jordan as its CEO. Although MJ traded in his jersey and shorts for a suit, there were more trainers to come from the brand. One year later, the Air Jordan 15 launched as the first trainer Jordan didn't wear as an athlete - baseball included.

The Jordan 15 OG Low Black Silver, released on September 5, 2000, was inspired by the X-15 fighter jet. It has a protruding tongue and curves in the design that create sharp angles. A thick section of metallic silver stands out at the centre of the midsoles. Appearing to be at the top of the peak, there is a metallic silver Jumpman logo over the midfoot arch. The upper, tongue, and front and back portions of the soles are black. Woven Kevlar material and leather were used to create these shoes.
