The X-15 Inspired Futuristic-Looking Jordan 15 OG Columbia 2000

History of Air Jordan 15

In 1998, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to a triumphant championship win over the Utah Jazz, completing his second three-peat. It was a storybook ending to Jordan's illustrious career as a player.

With Jordan bowing out of basketball, many thought the Air Jordan would walk off into the sunset with His Airness, but the brand was entering a new phase. Earlier that year, the Air Jordan line became an independent subsidiary of Nike, and the Jordan Brand was founded with Michael Jordan as its CEO. Although MJ traded in his jersey and shorts for a suit, there were more trainers to come from the brand. One year later, the Air Jordan 15 launched as the first trainer Jordan didn't wear as an athlete - baseball included.

The Air Jordan 15 Columbia was released on February 5, 2000, after Michael Jordan's second retirement from NBA. Inspired by the shape of the X-15 fighter jet, its most distinguishing feature is the shoe's aerodynamic shape atop a Zoom Air cushioned sole. The white and Columbia Blue version is one of the three Jordan 15 colourways offered by Nike. Leather and woven mesh on top provide a distinctive look complemented by strips running down the heel counter and toe cap. The hidden quick-lace system and dynamic-fit sleeve help improve the comfort level. On closer inspection, you will see 23/6/15 inscribed on the sole. These figures pay tribute to Jordan's shirt number, Jordan's championship appearance, and the number 15 of the shoe family.
