A cradle or bassinet is an alternative to a baby crib, and parents use these for newborns up until around the fourth month. Cradles are smaller than full-sized cribs, which makes them easier to move around.

For parents who live in smaller homes or perhaps want the child to sleep in their room, bassinets are a better option than heavy cribs, which tend to take up a lot of space and are difficult to move around.

Cradles also tend to be smaller, allowing parents take them when going away on longer trips to ensure their child has a place to sleep. Some models also have special mechanisms that allow the parent to rock the cradle, which in turn soothes the child and lulls them to sleep.
