About Wimbledon - Sports Memorabilia
Wimbledon sports memorabilia is all about celebrating famous sporting clubs in the central London area, one of which is no longer around, making its items even more desirable.
Mention Wimbledon to anyone and straight away they think of tennis. It's home to the world's most famous tennis tournament, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where the world's top players battle it out each June to take the coveted titles.
The Wimbledon Championships have been held there since 1877, and there's all manner of memorabilia available, including some forward items such as Wimbledon 2014 towels.
Other items include framed and signed photographs of winners, as well as Wimbledon-branded tennis balls and past Wimbledon annuals. For Wimbledon tennis fans, there's something for everyone.
There are also items connected with the now-defunct Wimbledon Football Club, after relocating in 2003 and becoming Milton Keynes Dons Football Club. These range from signed photographs of star players such as Vinnie Jones to old newspaper articles about the team. There are also images of key matches in the club's history, including the winning goal of the 1998 FA Cup Final.
Out of the ashes of Wimbledon Football Club arose AFC Wimbledon, and among the memorabilia are fridge magnets, away shirts and shorts and various programmes. There's also a Plough Lane street sign -- the location of the original Wimbledon FC and a cherished memento for Wombles fans.
There's a lot of sporting history in Wimbledon, and it, along with the memorabilia, continues to be made.
