About Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 is one of the most popular gaming systems around and is the second-generation console from Microsoft, following the introduction of the original Xbox in late 2001. The Xbox 360 made its début at the end of 2005.
The Xbox 360 features an updated version of Xbox Live, which allows online gaming and other interactions between users. It also came with a bigger hard drive and wireless controllers, allowing for greater ease of use while gaming.
At its release, there were just over a dozen games available for the Xbox 360, and since then the list has ballooned to well over 1,100. Many of the initial games sold millions of copies, including such favourites as Call of Duty 2, Dead or Alive 4 and Gears of War.
Among the most popular since then have been Grand Theft Auto 5, Batman: Arkham City and L.A. Noire. It's estimated that Xbox 360 owners have an average of 7.5 games per console, a figure that's said to be higher than rivals' consoles and their games.
Sales of the Xbox 360 have been astronomical, with Microsoft barely able to keep up with demand in the early days of its release.
Altogether, global sales of the Xbox 360 reached 80 million by the end of 2013, with almost 26 million sold in the United States alone. The video-gaming console has also been a critical success, with some industry analysts calling it one of the best of all time.
