As Authorised Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Dealers we get several calls a day from people who have bought Bestway Lay-Z-Spa products from both ourselves and other outlets. We especially get higher levels of calls around the start of the season, this is when a lot of users are setting up their Spas again after winter storage, many are concerned that their heaters do not work anymore or the heating capacity of the Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Heater is reduced.
When sold through the correct channels and you fill out and send off the warranty registration card, your Lay-Z-Spa Heater should come with a 12 Month Return to Base UK Warranty, (the liner and supporting accessories are covered for 90 Days), the product is further supported by a Freephone Manufacturer Aftersales Service, in addition to that, we are also, in most cases, able to support our own customers spare and tehnical needs from our own stocks and knowledge.
Having read a few reviews on various forums and blogs of other customer experiences, we would just like to offer to everybody, for free, the advice we give our own customers who call up to say, "my heater won't heat over 20o/c". 9 times out of 10, we can assist them with this problem straight away over the telephone, the matter is resolved in just a few minutes, they are then able to start enjoying their Bestway Lay-Z-Spa immediately again, as a result our warranty cliam rate regarding this suspected problem is extremely low as the problem is normaly a maintenance related one and not a technical fault.
As with most things, it is extremely important to fully read and understand the handbook that accompanies your Bestway Lay-Z-Spa, but fact is, most people get extremely excited when their Bestway Lay-Z-Spa arrives, all they want to do is fill it up and dive on in, well with such an exciting product, who would blame them ?
I would guess that most people reading this guide have already bought a Bestway Lay-Z-Spa and have used it for at least two week by now, I would also guess that the other lot of you reading this guide are interesting in buying a Betsway Lay-Z-Spa, but are worried it may cause you concern.
To help you understand the problem, let me quickly explain in basic terms how the Bestway Lay-Z-Spa heats the water you bathe in.
Currently, when operating correctly, the Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Heater works by pumping water out of your Spas Liner and into its Filter Chamber, the water then passes through a Bestway Size II Filter Cartridge and through the Heaters Internal Matrix at a flow rate of around 1800 Ltrs and hour, the water is then returned to the Spa warmer (when set to a higher temperature) than when it entered. So for a 900 Litre size Spa, you should expect the water to circulate twice in the space of around an hour and to raise (when used in seasonal average outside temps) by about 1.5 to 2 o/c an hour.
So then, if the water flow rate is reduced / slowed down by a blockage, the heater will not be able to heat the water as quickly as it was designed to operate at and you will experience a problem as the water is simply not getting through your systems Heater Matrix fast enough.
Now, if your Bestway Lay-Z-Spa has been packed away for the winter and it was working perfectly well before you put it away, chances are that there is not much likelihood that something has gone wrong with it whilst it has been stored, (unless of course frost has got to it, or a mouse has eaten the hosing), so it should work again once connected up and you have bled the system of air as the procedure and accompanying DVD suggest.
So what is the secret to getting it going again ?
Not much really, just make sure that you still have an adequate flow rate back into your spa by putting your finger over the heaters lower return hose (you should have a medium pressure, like putting your finger under a running kitchen tap), chances are if you have a problem that this flow is reduced by a blockage caused by either, most commonly, an old washed out filter being used to many times or for to long, debris blockage in the pumps internal pipes, or trapped inlet and return hoses between the spa and the heater egg unit.
Let me explain the importance of regularly changing your filter as this is the main cause of the reported problems.
The Bestway lay-Z-Spa Filter Element is a paper based product that goes soggy after being submerged in water for around two weeks, quite often foreign matter like algae build up (like wall paper paste) gets in between the filters fins and blocks/restricts the water passing through. Even if you have not used your spa for two weeks or so, the filter will still get soggy and become blocked. It is extremely important to wash your filters out daily, the manufacturer recommends that you wash them daily and change them every two weeks, in practice we recommend to all our customers a daily wash out with a weekly filter change, especially when usage is higher than normal. We cannot emphasis this procedure enough, remember also, the longer your Lay-Z-Spa takes to heat up, the more energy you consume, so it could be a false economy not to regularly replace your filters with BRAND NEW ONES every week and not keep using washed out ones.
Another top tip, if you are not using your spa for a period of time, then take your filters out of the pump/heater unit and keep them in a dry place, just remember to put them back in before you turn your filter pump back on and bleed the system of air again before you use yoru Bestway Lay-Z-Spa again.
The second most popular cause to restrict your Bestway Heater Pump from working properly is debris stuck in the pump, this could be loose hair strands, gravel, leaves, grass, etc, for example.
So what goes in must come out, well maybe not the way it should do, but by disconnecting your pump you can quite easily back wash your filter pump with your garden hose and gently push the debris back out the way it came into your pump. We would alays recommend that you let your hose run for around five minutes as this should be enough time to thoroughly wash your filter unit through, it is good practice to carry out this operation on a monthly basis as part of your regular maintenance.
Another cause for concern could be that the hoses between the Lay-Z-Spa Liner and the Lay-Z-Spa Pump unit are squashed or trapped.
Check your hoses and fittings, maybe the internal black rubber gasket is not seated correctly and it is blocking the flow, maybe the hoses are trapped as the heater is at a different level to your spa, remember the hotter your spa gets the more/higher your chambers will increase in size (this is due to air pressure increase due to warmer air), if necessary, stand your heater on some ply wood to raise its height to a level that will allow the hoses not to be twisted/trapped squashed and in line with the Lay-Z-Spa Liners inlet and return valves.
9 times out of 10, these tips will do the trick, but just remember to also ensure that your water level is high enough up against the internal water mark, this has also caused a few embarrassed cutomers to say, of course, why did I not think of that.
Remeber again, general maintenance is an important part of your ownership experience, the more regularly you maintain your Bestway Lay-Z-Spa, the better you can expect it to perform, the more you wil enjoy it.

Do thay have a Bestway Lay-Z-Spa themselves that they use in their homes and shops, (if they have one) ? Are they an Authorised Dealer ? or are they just selling somthing they don't really undertand from a box to try and make some money ?
