How to sign up for an eBay account
Before you can start buying and selling, you’ll need to verify your account. We'll send you an email with instructions on how to do this.
Creating an account using Facebook or Google
If you have a Facebook or Google account, you can use it to create an eBay account. Here's how:
- On the Registration page - opens in new window or tab, select Continue with Facebook or Continue with Google.
- Sign into your Facebook or Google account.
- Allow eBay to access your public profile and email address.
- Confirm the email address you want to use for your eBay account.
- Select Create account.
We'll use this information to create an account for you, and send you an email confirming your account details.
Linking your eBay account to a Facebook or Google account
If you already have an eBay account, you can link it to your Facebook or Google account. Simply select Sign in with Facebook or Sign in with Google on the Sign in page - opens in new window or tab.
If the email address on both your eBay and Facebook or Google account is the same, enter your eBay password, and then select Link your accounts. If the email addresses on your accounts don't match, select Link to an existing account, enter your eBay account's email address, then select Link your accounts.
You may need to clear your browser's cache and cookies in order to use Facebook to create or sign into your eBay account.
Create a business account
If you're thinking about selling on eBay, you can choose between a personal or business account, depending on how much you're planning on selling.
If you plan to sell casually, like selling items you no longer want, a personal account is the best option. If you want to sell large quantities, or if you have items that you've made or bought to resell, register a business account.
If you want to register as a business, select Create a business account on the registration page. We'll ask for some additional details, like your business name, type, and address.
Changing from a personal account to a business account
If you've already registered with a personal account but would like to upgrade to a business account, here's how:
- Go to My eBay and select Account, then Personal information.
- Select Edit next to Account type. You may be asked to sign in again.
- On the Change Account Type page, select Business Account and then Confirm.
- On the following page, enter your business information such as name, contact information, VAT number and returns policy, then select Save.
Please be aware that once you've upgraded your personal account to a business account, it won't be possible to revert back to a personal account.

Opening a second eBay account
You can open more than one eBay account as long as you use different email addresses and usernames for each additional account.
All you need to do is sign out of the account you're currently using, go to the Registration page - opens in new window or tab, and follow the steps above to create a new account.
Be aware that you can't use more than one account for activity related to the same listing. For example, you can't bid on the same item from multiple accounts, or bid on an item you're selling from another account. You can find out more in our multiple accounts policy.
If you want to move an email address from one eBay account to another, you'll need to remove it from the first account and wait 60 days before you can add that email address to another eBay account. Learn how to change your email address.
