Setting up and changing your payment method

When you create a seller account, you'll need to add a payment method to pay for any eBay selling fees or charges. You can choose PayPal, direct debit, or credit card as your payment method.

We'll email you a monthly invoice with details of all your seller fees – including fees for listings, sales, and subscriptions, refunds made to buyers, and postage label charges. With your payment method set up, you don't need to do anything – we'll charge the invoiced amount automatically by the due date.

Setting up an automatic payment method

  1. Go to your Seller Account - opens in new window or tab in My eBay.
  2. Look for Payment methods for seller fees and select Change automatic payment method.
  3. Choose your preferred payment method.

If you choose to pay by PayPal, you'll be redirected to the PayPal site to complete the process.

If you choose direct debit or credit card, you'll need to enter your bank or card details. We'll need to verify your card so if it's declined during verification, while making payment, or at some other time, you'll need to contact the issuer of your card. You usually can't use a pre-paid credit card to verify your account.

Your payment provider may ask you to take an extra step to confirm your identity through their chosen two factor authentication method, such as a password or SMS code. To avoid any issues, ensure all your details with your payment provider are up to date.

To make sure we use the new information for your next invoice, update your payment details at least two business days before your invoice date.

Making a one-time payment

You can make a one-time payment on your eBay seller account using PayPal, credit card or direct debit. Just be sure to make your payment at least 5 days before the due date.

Because you're required to have an automatic payment method on file, be sure you aren't making a duplicate payment when you make a one-time payment for your fees.

Here's how to make a one-time payment:

  1. Go to your Seller Account - opens in new window or tab in My eBay.
  2. Look for Payment methods for Seller Fees and select one-time payment,
  3. Select your payment method and enter your payment details.

If you want to use direct debit to make a one-time payment, you'll need to add it as an automatic payment method first

Payment requirements and late fees

To help us maintain great experiences for buyers and sellers on eBay, we require that accounts with a fee amount of £1.00 or more be paid in full each month. If your account becomes past due, and you have an issue paying your fees, you should contact us.

We may suspend or restrict accounts if fees are not paid. You can read more about your responsibility when it comes to paying fees in the fees section of our User Agreement.

Once you set up a payment method, we'll automatically deduct any amount due on the date specified on your monthly eBay invoice. If you need to, you can also make a one-time payment for your seller fees.
