An excellent film watched a number of times, one critic considered it Good enough to be included in the list of forty of the best films ever.

Overrated
This film has been thoroughly hyped. The lead actress won an Oscar! It's a pity it's just not that good. Of course these are fine actors giving skillful performances and the film is pretty well made. But all the modern-sounding sexual references and CGI effects can't hide the fact that its a simple melodrama with a very cliched setup. I've seen worse melodramas, but I've also seen better. The fact that the film is set around and uses a high-status, "serious" art form, ballet, makes it seem arty too. But are all biopics about great artists, great art themselves? Brilliantly Acted and Superb Cinematography
Having read the review below, I had to watch this film, to see if was as bad as it was painted. NO! It's an excellent film. The acting is amazing and it looks and feels like quality all the way through. The storyline is a bit basic, yes, but it works well, taking everything else into account. I'm more of a shooty-gunny, action thriller kind of guy, but honestly, I will watch this again in a couple of years, it was that good.Having read the review below, I had to watch this film, to see if was as bad as it was painted.
