This was the most lovingly packaged item I have ever recieved. The books were wrapped with such care that I felt like I was opening a gift from a close friend as I unwrapped it. Included in the package was a handwritten postcard wishing me well and two Detroit Tigers baseball cards (very thoughtful, as I live in Detroit) - totally unsolicited. It goes without saying that the books were in good condition, as described. Flappincat, I can say with confidence, is a very good person.10/10 recommend.

  • A Journalist's History of the US Civil Rights Workers

Lead by Rev. Dr James Lawson, a trainer in nonviolence, high school and college students of the US Civil Rights Movement (to be) gathered to learn from Lawson how to "take their freedom" (quoting accapella singers "Sweet Honey in the Rock"). Among these children were Congressional Rep. John Lewis; pediatrician Dr. Rodney Powell; former Mayor of Washington, DC, Marion Barry; Diane Nash, Gloria Johnson, and so many more courageous younger people who fired up the direct actions nonviolently. Halbertsam's (1998) account is astonishingly intimate as he reports how Diane Nash felt while seated in a classroom minutes before a sit in: with her palms sweating. The very private history of the heart and soul foot soldiers of what would become the Soulforcees--the followers of Rev. Dr. Martin ...

  • I bought one and then Three more to give away.

Halberstam does a superb job of describing each of the children that grew up and came to Nashville, Tennessee to go to college, organize, and turn civil rights into reality. He describes the caracters from their roots through their struggles, and to life afterwards, including both strengths and weaknesses. He, having worked as a reporter for the Nashville Tennessean, was seated in the front row for the beginnings of restaurant sit-ins and later freedom rides and voter registration in the South.
