    4 GB DDR3 RAM Speeds up 7-year-old laptop

    1600 MHz DDR3 RAM is fast by default - this 4GB 'stick' (an exact match for the memory already installed), along with an SSD, has speeded up a medium-spec 7-year-old laptop sufficiently to run 64-bit Windows 10 very acceptably. Despite the laptop manufacturer's claim that the hardware is not compatible with Windows 10, functional device drivers (most from Microsoft via 'update') have been found for everything, including an old parallel-port HP Laserjet. If Windows 10 had not worked on this machine, Linux would have been the alternative OS. RE-USE FUNCTIONAL HARDWARE - DON'T THROW IT AWAY!
