I have had this watch for two months. While it is not expensive it seems to be at least so far of good quality. I have researched the history of Seiko 5s and they seem to have a solid history. You can go to ebay and check out vintage Seiko 5s and see that there are many available as used pieces, still working that are for sale and made in the 1970s and 80s. I have another 5 that is 9 years old and it has run flawlessly and is consistently fast by 13 seconds a day. This watch is accurate to an average of +3-4 seconds per day. It cannot be wound by hand nor is there a hacking feature. But it is water resistant rated to 100m and made for sport activity. It is a nice looking piece that may well last for decades at which time it can be replaced or serviced. The ebay and Amazon ratings are consistently high 4-5 stars and I join that group.Read full review

When I being a bit rough wearing this watch, the spring bar popped out. The whole thing fell off my wrist from a height of about four feet. The crystal shattered terribly and the movement stopped working. It would be cheaper just to buy another one from eBay than to have it repaired. This has a 7s36 movement so I'm not sure whether authorized Seiko dealers will be pleased with your bringing this in for service. The dial is way too big, it looks horrendous for a basic field watch. The nylon band is itchy. Because the 7s36 movement has no hand-winding, to restart it you have to move it around, which causes permanent damage. I actually did wear this in the shower and to wash my hands. It dried up without any problem. During winters the air usually is dry so as long as you stay warm it shouldn't feel like an iced-over flack jacket for too long. My guess is that the band has a protective water-resistant coating that deteriorates after a while, and that is when it becomes fuzzy and holds water longer than it should. This is probably the least-exciting watch that Seiko sells.Read full review

This is one of the greatest watches ever made! It is a really high quality, made in Japan by Seiko. It is a series 5 which means it must meet the following 5 objectives: Automatic – The watch has to be powered by an automatic movement Date & Date – The watch must feature a day and a date complication Water Resistance – The watch must be water resistant Recessed Crown – The watch must have a recessed crown either at the 3 o’clock position or the 6 o’clock position Durable – The watch must be durable and able to withstand the test of time This watch meets all 5 items and I believe that I will give it to one of my children when I pass away as a family heirloom, it is that good and it did not cost me $25,000 like a Rolex would.

Great watch with a genuine Japanese movement. Four years ago I bought the same model with a non-Japanese (Malaysian?) movement which ran fine until a month ago, then ran slow, then ran fast (15 min./day). Considering cost of repair, I was willing to pay 50% more than the first watch cost me to get the full-on original Japanese model and trust to luck that it would be as good or better. Now, after 1 week's use, it has kept time perfectly. The watch came with all factory packaging intact - right down to the cellophane and paper tags. If you want an excellent sports watch that looks good enough to wear with anything less than a tuxedo, this is a fine choice.
