I would recommend drilling out the cross pin that holds the hickey to the socket and replacing it with a screw and a nut. That way the hickey can be screwed into the light fixture without twisting the electric wire. After it has been wired, the socket can then be attached to the hickey using the screw and nut in lieu of the cross pin.
