Boasting a monstrous memory capacity of 1TB, this internal hard disk offers great space for different types of data. This Seagate Constellation ES features a cache memory of 64MB and rotation speed of 7200RPM, which contributes to fast read/write operations. The Seagate Constellation ES ST1000NM0011 has a 3.5-inch form factor with enhanced rotational vibration tolerance that guarantees great performance and reliability. The internal hard drive has low power consumption for efficiency. Offering a high-end degree of versatility and ease of use, this Seagate 1TB hard drive features a SATA 3 6GB/s interface accessory that allows for easy integration with many systems. In addition to its storage capacity, the Seagate ES is engineered around innovative hardware to maximize performance. Measured by RPM, the spindle speed of a drive indicates how long it will take the optical reader to perform data lookup calls. This hard drive has a spindle speed of 7200RPM, which is fast enough to run intensive software applications without slowdown. These drives generally connect to the rest of the hardware through the SATA interface and via SATA cables. This disk uses a 6GB/s SATA connection to quickly transfer data up and downstream. A large 64MB buffer cache holds critical read and write data, which increases the efficiency of this hard disk. These drives pack 512 bytes into each sector, allowing you to store lots of information on a relatively small disk. Latency on hard disks is one of the main drivers of noticeable performance issues. The 8.5-millisecond average latency rate on this drive accessory means that you won't notice significant latency, even when performing lots of calls to the disk. A 150MB/s data transfer rate allows these drives to handle a lot of data rearranging rapidly. If you're transferring data to other devices, like a USB stick, you'll appreciate the 600MB/s external data transfer rate. This device can operate at temperatures between 41 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which covers most variable environmental conditions. It can tolerate vibrations of 0.25G when operating and 4.9G when off, ensuring that this disk can survive intense operational conditions. Various hardware optimizations ensure that the Seagate Constellation ES can perform many different functions well. SMART compliant monitoring keeps track of the health of the device and alerts you if a failure becomes more likely. This is especially helpful as the disk approaches the 500,000 start/stop limit as rated by the manufacturer. Power Choice dynamically adjusts the voltage of the disk depending on load, temperature, and file size to deliver performance or energy conservation as needed. Ramp load technology ensures that the optical reader never comes into contact with the hard drive itself, increasing the lifespan of the components. An internal dual-core processor can handle read/write requests in parallel, which can increase performance. These disks are fully compatible with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. Furthermore, they can be reformatted to work with either the Linux or Mac operating systems.

    Strong, silent type

    Nice, quiet, super-reliable drive (designed to run for years). Not super-fast - I doubt that it actually pushes the limits of the SATA interface - but for my purposes (backup) that's not an issue. Only downside is that it's very heavy - an array of these beasts would be quite an armload.

The drive is working flawlessly at this point.

    So far so good...

    At this point they seem to be doing the job for a reasonable price. I've put 3 of these in a box to be used for architectural work. They are on excellent floating 3.5 to 5.25 adapter mounts and setup in a raid 0 configuration with one drive reserved for backups.

    Great value 1TB hard drive

    I installed it in my old Thinkcenter edge desktop that I use as my home network as a file server. So far it has run faster, cooler and more quiet than the drive it replaced. As a enterprise class hard drive, I hope it will last longer.
