Product Information

Alfred Hitchcock had already begun work on REAR WINDOW when he took on the project to direct DIAL M FOR MURDER, based on the successful play by Frederick Knott. For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. Kelly would also star in REAR WINDOW and Hitchcock's subsequent TO CATCH A THIEF. It wasn't Hitchcock's preference to shoot DIAL M FOR MURDER in Warnercolor 3D (the cameras were large and unwieldly), and the film is seldom screened in 3D, but Hitchcock's use of the technique is notable for its service to the story rather than just being a gimmick. In the film Margot Wendice is a wealthy heiress whose playboy husband, Tony (Ray Milland), recognizes his dependence on his wife's fortune. When Tony begins to suspect he is losing Margot's affection to writer Mark Halliday (Robert Cummings), he also begins to fear he will lose her wealth. This leads the callous husband to craft a plan for his wife's death. However, when the plan goes awry, Tony is quick to turn circumstance into a second opportunity to destroy his wife.

    The Best Laid Plans Go Wrong - Excellent 3D

    A jealous husband plots the murder of his wife down to every detail. Just one little thing goes wrong. Good story, great actors. It's surprising this film was shot in 3D which is usually reserved for SciFi or horror movies (or more recently animated films). The 3D is excellent - fantastic depth, almost no "pop-outs" except the opening credits. There is a little "ghosting", but not bad. Yes, Hitch has a cameo - you'll need eagle eyes to spot this one. Highly recommended!!!!!!

    Essentially a stage play, ...far more engrossing in 3D!

    The ONLY 3D movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock Based on a stage play...DIAL M FOR MURDER springs to life in 3D. The camera sweeps through the set as a murder is planned, an accomplice coerced, an alibi is constructed...and well, you're NOT going to catch me giving up the McGuffin! The is a 2-d version in case your television/projector is still in development to present 3D.

    Hitchcock did it again!

    He did a great job of being faithful to the play as he turned it into a movie. happens in one room but I never felt trapped or bored! You don't even notice that you virtually never go anywhere else! There aren't greats like Hitchcock any more... sad. But we still have his material!!

    Dial M for Murder Blu-Ray * Brand New * (2012) 2D & 3D Alfred Hitchcock

    A classic film, and the only one Hitchcock ever filmed in 3D (he didn't like the bulky camera). Also, one of the best examples of a very sparse selection of early 3D movies filmed in color (not spectacular color, mind you, but better than black, white, blue and red! The remaster is faithful to the original theatrical experience...very clean print.
