Product Information

The Next Tetris is not only based on the original Tetris, which was created by Russian designer Alexey Pajitnov back in the mid- to late-1980s, it actually includes a copy of the original game, complete with enhanced graphics and sound. <br>As most people know, Tetris is a game in which you maneuver falling blocks of seven different shapes into unbroken horizontal lines. When a line is created, the blocks in that line (or lines) disappear from the screen. Your job is to keep the pile of blocks from reaching the top of the playfield.<br><br>The Next Tetris mode of play introduces several new elements to the Tetris universe. The block-maneuvering action remains, but special multi-colored puzzle pieces that can separate and fall when they land enter the mix. Also, blocks above cleared lines will fall to spaces below, possibly setting up a chain reaction, which in this game is called a Cascade.<br><br>In addition to trying to keep the blocks from reaching the top of the playfield, you must also clear garbage blocks from the bottom of the screen in a timely fashion in order to finish a round. In the two-player split screen mode, the object of the game is to clear the garbage blocks faster than the other person without letting your blocks pile to the top of the screen. <br><br>When you clear more than one line at once or by scoring a Cascade, your opponent will become temporarily distracted by his playfield spinning on its X-axis, his blocks turning to gold, and his playfield darkening.

    Addictive

    To me, Tetris is not fun. However, the Next Tetris is an entirely different experience. There is a "feel" to this game. The wobbling blocks, the music, the breakaway blocks and excellent controls make this the only PS1 game that I continue to play consistently. After the game loads, you can remove the game disc and play your own CD. You control the volume and skip tracks with the R1-L2 buttons. Also, the two player game is so exciting. You can flip and spin the opponent's screen with combination layer breaks. The one player game is as challenging as you are good. It is the only game that mirrors your skill ability. Only your mental dexterity and reflexes will determine how high you will get. My copy of the game is so played (I bought it new over five years ago), that I am here on eBay ...

    The Next Tetris PS 1 game

    Tetris is a classic. The player tries to connect blocks that are arranged in different shapes, which fall from the top of the screen, to accumulate points. The more points that are accumulated, the harder the game gets (more levels). Thank you.
