Pandemic Studios applies the same formula it used in the popular Star Wars: Battlefront series to another cherished mythology in The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, this time letting players take either side of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic tale of good vs. evil and then battle through familiar locations from Peter Jackson's film adaptations. There are three playable classes, allowing gamers to wield swords in melee combat as a Warrior, fire arrows at enemies as an Archer, or employ magic to attack or heal as a Mage. Players can also make use of familiar creatures such as oliphaunts and trolls, use horses and wargs as mounts, and periodically take control of series heroes or villains, including Gandalf, Saruman, Aragorn, Sauron, Legolas, and even a Balrog.<br><br>The single-player campaign puts gamers in the role of "good" characters as they fight through familiar conflicts from the films, including the Battle of Helm's Deep and the Battle of Minas Tirith. However, a new Evil Campaign puts players on the other side of the same conflicts, and in supposing that Frodo was unsuccessful in his quest to destroy The One Ring, LOTR: Conquest also lets gamers join Sauron's dark army as it continues its march of destruction across all of Middle-earth. Players can also head online to wage wireless war with or without a friend.

    The Lord of the Rings: Conquest

    It’s been five years since the final film in the Lord of The Rings trilogy but that hasn’t stemmed the flow of licensed products related to the films. The various games released have covered a wide variety of genres, from massively multiplayer games to real-time strategy titles. Lord of The Rings is the perfect source for games with a complex story, a dramatic backdrop and a host of well-defined and memorable characters and races. Conquest brings the LoTR universe to the hack-and-slash genre. The game’s developer, Pandemic, has dealt with big movie licenses before, being responsible for Star Wars: Battlefront. Conquest bears more than a passing similarity to this, essentially being the same idea but with wizards and elves rather than stormtroopers and rebel soldiers. You can fight your ...

    awesome game!

    You may think that this type of game wouldn't be any good on the DS, well you'll change your mind once you play it. it really is very entertaining, the graphics are just right for this game too. and has the official movie music in it as well. Once you get to play as Lord Sauron, you'll really love this game.

    Fun once or twice through

    The gameplay is very engaging, to a lesser degree than the console would be. I was impressed with the graphics though, they are pretty impressive for a DS game. The fact that you get to play a campaign as Sauron's forces is pretty sweet. Definitely worth playing through twice, but probably not more than that.

    Fast Paced

    The harder the dificulty the faster the pace. it is fairly confusing at times but that just asdds to the fun of the game. The plot is well defined for the platform and the gameplay is great. Its a good game for any fan of the LOTR series.
