Trail-blazing comedy
A film that was among the first of a new style of comedy. Followed by Airplane, The Naked Gun, The Blues Brothers, Animal House etc. Kentucky Fried Movie got there first. Basically a series of sketches, fake trailers, and a film-within-the-film A Fistful of Yen. Ruder than most of what followed but so exuberant and full of fun you can't take offence. I saw this many years ago at the cinema. I was pleased to find it's worn well.A film that was among the first of a new style of comedy. Non Stop Insanity
In 1977, before the fantastic "Animal House", director John Landis teamed up with Jerry and David Zucker (creators of "Airplane") and the result was this. The Kentucky Fried Movie is simply a movie based on a collection of skits of American TV culture. Everything from morning shows, board games, and even the film industry itself are made fun of in just under 90 minutes of hilarious sketches and episodes. A natural break occurs around half time for the feature presentation - "A Fistful of Yen", a spoof of the Bruce Lee classic "Enter the Dragon", with some of the most outrageous kung fu action ever. It remains a mystery how stars such as Donald Sutherland, Bill Bixby and Henry Gibson were convinced in such a surreal film, but who cares? This is the ... Kentucky Fried Movie
This film is a classic. I first saw it at the cinema when it first came out and some of the sketches have become classics in their own right. I know kids who have got them on their mobile phones with no idea they came from this film. Now it’s available on DVD it’s got to be one for the collection. If you’ve ever seen “Enter the Dragon” the “Fist full of Yen” spoof of it is worth buying the movie for on it’s own! If you don’t laugh out loud at bits of this there’s something wrong with you!This film is a classic. The film is so funny - it's that simple. I remember first seeing the film when it was originally released. I was browsing through ebay one evening and came across the film for sale and thought I must have one! It's partly a trip down memory lane, but in the main because (sense of humor permitting) it makes you laugh!!
