4 Out of 5-"Mason Was Meant to Ramble Down the Sort of Back Streets Where Old Souls Dwell.", 3 stars out of 5 - "Mason blends precocious lyricism, spare, jangly guitar, and a world-weary voice...", "Mason displays that emotional vocal aesthetic that helped make Oberst an indie-rock kingpin. However, Mason's offerings brim more with old blues and folk flavors...", 4 stars out of 5 - "He sings with committed restraint and plays outspoken guitar - Dick Dale twang, kerrang, sweet strum -- whatever works for hard lyrics which sweep from domestic strife to the far horizon...", 3 Stars Out of 5-"An Album of Quiet Ferocity and Moral Indignation..."

  • A Stirring and Brilliant Debut

I am writing this review several years after first purchasing the album. I was drawn to buy it off the back of hearing one song "Oxygen". Now this tactic is usually a very hit and miss one but on this occasion was very much a hit! Although at first the rest of the album seems to never quite reach the spine tingling and emotionally stirring heights of "oxygen" it does offer simple yet stirring meloncholic songs that are thrust into a different level by Willy Mason's worn and brewding voice which sounds more like an old blues singer in his retirement rather than the young and fresh talent that he is. "Where the humans eat" is certainly one of those albums that will grow on you over time and after listening to the album from start to finish on several evenings reading a book, writing your ...

  • Willy Mason - Where The Humans Eat (2004)

By far some of his best work! It's hard to compare 'Where The Humans Eat' to his later release 'If The Ocean Gets Rough' they're both very unique. But if you loved one you're guaranteed to enjoy the other too. As for this album, the standard of song writing is some of his best and should not be missed out on!

  • The album name reflects the album well.

I already had this album when it was first realeased but it got lost. well worth buying again. although i prefer a live session from willy mason with an accoustic guitar the album still has the same feel and is a great album to relax too. id give this album an 8/10 x

  • Willy My Hero

Above average. Got introduced to it by this little Irish girl. Album was really nice. If I had known of it a year and a half earlier I would have seen him in the Cockpit in Leeds (played early 2005). He has a nice arty farty website and a My Space thingy. Someone to look out for perhaps. Something I might have been saying in 2000 about Matt Belamy and look what happended to him :)
