Poor visual quality
I saw this film of the Mikado at a local cinema some forty to fifty years ago. I was very impressed with the quality of the singing and acting although I was a bit disappointed that the opera was filmed as a stage production. What a pity that, when converting this rare D'Oyly Carte production of the opera from film to DVD, it was not restored to a watchable quality. The green flashes, used to inform the projectionist when to change projectors, are still present and some of the sections of film are in very poor condition in particular the "Sun whose rays are all ablaze" and Katisha's "Living I" sections are particularly bad. Let's hope that someone fully restores this film and saves it for posterity.All-in-all an excellent production of the Mikado spoiled due to a low quality reproduction.I saw this film of the Mikado at a local cinema some forty to fifty years ago.
