About this product

Product Information

More than just a pair of days, a weekend is also a state of mind--a feeling of relaxation and freedom to immerse ourselves fully in a favorite activity. In Weekend Sewing, designer Heather Ross presents creative projects for clothing, accessories, and home items that can be made in a weekend or less. Some, like the Quick Garden Gloves and Ruby's Bloomers, take a few hours; others, like the Weekend-Away Travel Bag and Trapeze Sundress, require a day or two--but all of them capture that weekend feeling. And because weekends are often the most fun when they're social, Ross features ideas that encourage us to share our stitching and our time, such as a recipe for soup to simmer while sewing, then serve to guests later in the day, and tips for transporting a sewing machine to a friend's house for an afternoon of social stitching. The sewing instructions are beautifully illustrated, and patterns for the projects are included on pullout sheets.

  • across the board sewing with patterns

This is the most charming of the sewing books I've purchased over the last few years. I think it's due to her hand-drawn illustrations and of course the fun patterns. The patterns are all printed on large separate sheets, and the designs overlap each other, as did Victorian sewing patterns. I at first hated it but after 4 or 5 projects, I rather like the idea. Just trace w/freezer paper! There are some errors in the instructions, so I recommend going to her blog on Weekend Sewing for help. My sister is a beginning sewer and I think this is the book that fired her up on pattern following. I chose to buy Weekend Sewing because of Heather Ross's incredible fabrics--whimsical, fun, and on the softest cotton. The headband pattern is so simple that absolute beginners should have no trouble ...

  • Lovely and Creative!

This book by Heather Ross is an enjoyable trip through the house (sewingly speaking of course!). Heather has found 40 projects that you can make yourself and the projects can be completed in one weekend! Heather has also included patterns for all of her projects (so no guessing) and all of her items are practical (even clothing patterns are included). She's even thrown in a few recipes and hints! If you are creative and would like to have the satisfaction of completing a project in two days or less and LOVE IT!, this book is definitely for YOU!

  • Beautiful book!

With great photos and projects you’ll actually use! Includes paper patterns for all the projects.

  • Weekend Sewing

I originally saw a review of this book in our local newspaper. Checked it out from the library and saw that it was very readable and the projects seemed do-able. My college-age granddaughter loves to sew so passed it on to her. It was a big hit as it gave her many new ideas. I knew she would want this as a part of her sewing library so purchased the book for her.
