This is Fiona's first album, and her secon best to date. It sets the stage for all that is to come from her - bluesy, jazzy, occasional loud, always deeply personal. Not the type of thing to play at a party, It's more suited to a quite night at home. Maybe when you find yourself in a funk and decide to just go with it. She has a superb voice, and the piano playing is excellent. Not over orchestrated, and mostly acoustic. I like it - when the time is right.
I had been recommended to try Fiona Apple. Not my style.

The case has a huge crack and there isn’t even a stopper for the cd to sit in, the cd was just moving all around the case. Extremely disappointed.

This album had to grow on me. I loved Fiona’s voice immediately, but I didn’t always appreciate what I thought of as “chick music”. Luckily for me, I got past the label and realized the true depth of Fiona Apple’s music and personality. This album is raw and beautiful. It is good from beginning to end.
If you like female singers. If you like female singers that play piano. If you like female singers who write great songs. If you like female singers that carry a word knife to the piano with them....this is your lucky day. You will not grow tired of this recording.
