The popular cartoon franchise of the 1980s returns in Smurf Racer!, where players, as one of a dozen Smurf characters, go kart racing on eight different courses. Each blue-skinned, white-capped, "three-apples-tall" Smurf is defined by a particular personality trait, apparent by the theme of his or her vehicle. Smurfs compete for the Mushcup or Sasparilla Palm using wind-up cars and special tricks, with Brainy Smurf, always the authority, judging the matches.<br><br>Single-player action includes races in three modes: Single, Championship, and Flag. Eight Smurfs are available at the beginning of the game. Four more can be unlocked later in the Championship mode, where the goal is to win each of nine levels in three different worlds to find the last super Smurf in the secret level. Flag racing requires running over flags on the track before the computer-controlled racers can get them. Hitting opponents with firecrackers causes them to drop all their flags, though they can play the same trick on you as well. Two-player action is accommodated in the Versus Mode, with either a one-on-one or flag race.<br><br>Smurfs include Papa, Smurfette, Cook, Jokey, Hefty, Harmony, Handy, Painter, Wild, King, Super Drive, and Astro, with the last four comprising the hidden characters. Brainy guides you through Smurf Village, The Big Castle, The Forbidden Zone, and Astro Smurf's Challenge. Featured items include firecrackers, red rockets, magic potion bottles, and special attacks unique to each Smurf.

There are better Smurf games out there.
I bought this game about a week ago, and played it. Smurf fans, well, if you want to race, well, it may be for die-hard Smurf fans and veterans, but sadly to say, although it is not the worst game to date, but it's not great either. The graphics are not that great, as you can see that the Smurfs are extremely blocky. The cars also look like cardboard boxes, and the village houses are made up of cardboard with paint on it. Heck, even Baby Smurf can make better graphics than this. The Gameplay is no E.T. for the Atari, but it could use some serious improvements. As you can see, the camera points too downward, forcing players to go way up on the screen in order to see forward. This is annoying, because it effects the field of vision. The sounds are awful. If you want to play a Smurf game, try out the Game Boy Smurfs right here, or Play the other Smurf game on the PSX instead. If you want to play a good racing game, play Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing if you have a Nintendo 64. This game is reserved for those who are Smurf Veterans and is one of the last games to pick up. So keep that in mind before you click on that BID or BUY IT NOW button. Just because I am a Smurf veteran doesn't mean that I like this game to the caliber of Mario Kart. But this game is good for collectors of the Smurf games like me, especially that I was a Smurf lover back in the 80s.

I originally bought this so that my 5 year old had a game to play that didn't involve the violence, death, destruction and complexity of most Playstation games. He enjoys it, even though he does have some trouble with the controls. It would be nice if there were more ways to control the overall speed of the game and slow it down for less experienced players, or have a slow practice track. I've already played though the entire game and unlocked all the special characters. The controls are very responsive, the backgrounds look great and tracks are challenging. The Smurfs and their cars are blocky, which is surprising considering the platform, and the game as a whole is short. Even though I'm a fan of the Smurfs, the game will loose it's re-playability soon. For my 5 year old I hope that with ... well i used to watch the smurfs when i was lil and i like the game it's easy that my 4 year old son could play it. it's a good game because it's for the PS1 it is kinda slower then what we are use to but all in all it's good.

I LOVE THE SMURFS! i bought this game for my grand daughters for xmas they didnt play it yet but i did testing it out and i couldn stop i played it for an hour i loved it haven seen the smurfs in years and i just know my grand kids will love them as much as i do and overall its a very fun cute game and easy for beginner gamers i recommend this game!
