    Independance and its Price

    The entire Euroepan society should be ashamed at their practices of violent submission of other groups of people. Thd battle of Algers just makes concret evidence of the importance of a nation to maintain their own indepenance and cultur. This showns another infringement on the African Continent by the Frence, and to see how they will/woild do anything to maintain their illegal power. If anybody reads this review, I would also recommend a book by the French jouralist Henri Aleq, who wa against the French occupation of Algers, and how he, a Frenchman was tortured by his country men.

    HISTORY BROUGHT TO THE SCREEN

    THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS TELLS THE PARTIAL STORY F THE FRENCH COLONIALIST OCCUPATION OF ALGERIA AND BY EXTENSION OF THE CAPITAL ALGIERS. THE MOVIE HOLDS UP WELL AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. THE SPECIAL FEATURES ARE NOT TO BE MISSED.

    Riveting and educational !

    I own a very rare original painting by the screenplay writer & co-producer, Franco Solinas. That is the main reason I purchased this DVD. I found it to be compelling as a docudrama and historical account of the struggle by Algeria for independence from France.

    Great Movie and Great DVD Package

    Although expensive, this DVD is full of extra features including a documentary with interviews of the real people and a booklet describing the Algerian War of Independence and the use of torture in counter-insurgency. This, like many documents and histories, should have been studied before the war in Iraq started. Highly recommended for thoughtful movie buffs.
