  • Not the best music in the world but definately worth it

Personally, I prefered the female vocalist over the male. The English songs are the only ones I understood so I can't comment on the female's Italian, which is where I hear most criticism. It's different, which is why I bought the album. The first & only time I've heard this group was on the Ms. USA pagent years ago & thought the gal sounded great. Sure, she's got that oversinging-diva thing going on but she's also got that sass in her voice to make it that much more interesting, esp. in Habanera (one of my favorites). I love The Flower Duet & at first was a bit taken off guard when I heard the man sing it - but it was pretty nice after all. Like I said before - different. Not a bad album though. I like my classical music to stay classical ...

  • ~ AWESOME ~ The East Village Opera Company

I've embraced & deeply enjoyed music of almost all types & styles for well over 50 years. Rock, Classical, Western, Opera, Blues, Rap, you name it, I have it. Everyone from Prince to Andrea Bocelli to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I thought I'd pretty much heard it all. That is, until I heard The East Village Opera Company on TV one night. My ears perked up & I went online to purchase their CD as quickly as possible. When my album arrived I put it into a player & with the speed of sound, found myself transported to musical heaven. Out of my music library of almost 1000 albums, this CD is among my treasured top 10. Believe me when I tell you, BUY IT. You'll be forever happy that you did.

  • Opera with a Rock & Roll Flavor

My wife and I saw EVOC on Breakfast with Arts and we both enjoyed it very much. The vocals feature two very talented performers. I am unsure of their background but the opera presentation was very authentic and beautiful. As you admire the talent of the singers the string quartet and 5 member rock band comes in and rocks the house. It was a combination of style and talent that we had not experienced before and we decided almost immediately to buy the cd. This music can appeal to young and old. It may causes rockers to get an exposure to opera and opera buffs a sample of today's contemorary music. The male singer's voice was unbelievable. A pleasant suprise.

  • Rock Opera---New meaning

As a jazz drummer vibist, a lover of classical music, and a professor of music, I have not been able to listen to any form of op-rock since the 70s when the porducers took over. I cannot stand the sound of deadened drums. I also cannot listen to opera. Recently I started to go to opera and buy opera dvds and learned that opera is meant to be seen, not heard. But after seeing an opera, one can listen to it. The east Village Opera Company do an excellent job of rendering familiar opera melodies in a pop context. The singing is true to the original while the accompaniements show that good melody writing can be adapted to most contexts. This record should get rock fans listening to opera and opera fans listening to rock. But too bad the drums were deadened.

  • The East Village Opera Comany

I am a classically trained musician and I love opera arias as originally written by the composers. I was immediately hooked with the first selection and the tying together the modern with the ancient. All the songs are cleverly adapted to different genre styles and are fun to hear. One does not need to understand the words (although provided) to appreciate the music and musicianship.
