I have a few of these plugs plus light switches and find them really easy to set up and having timers in the switches plus once again with dark nights you can have the lights etc on for coming home

Works well with Alexa, once set up. Set up fairly straightforward and reasonably intuitive. Range limited, especially if there is clutter in the way. When I plugged two units in next to each other, the furthest from the hub only switched occasionally.

You need the hub, which is usually cheap if bought in a pack. I find the switches quiet reliable. The hub is located on the ground floor under the stairs and the the furthest switch located in the loft of the second floor. The timers work well (you can set up 3 on off timers) and are meant to work even when the internet does not work. (some people set the the extra timers for a similar times, so the device receives the signal to turn on or off 3 times) It also supports IFTTT but I have not tried it. Only maybe twice the switch in the loft didn't work first time, when I was using my phone, maybe it was delayed as I was using data not wifi on my phone. Note there is no feedback if the device is actually on or off. So shouldn't be used for critical systems. My current set up has other sensors/devices that confirm my device has been turned on. They do a switch with a built in energy monitor (and one which just measures energy), which obviously lets you know when its switched on. There are also an override button on the plug, so you can manually turn an item on and off, which is pretty handy. Most important thing, Price! These are quiet cheap and reliable. The TP link ones dont require a hub, but are quiet expensive, samsung smart things are smaller but need the hub and are expensive but might have other features. The energenie system is not as flexible as the Samsung smartthings but it does what is required. And there may be the possibility to integrate them The app is reliiable and work well. You can set your favourites on the home page, so the less frequent one can be separated away. Uses; controlling plug in lights, using it to reset devices remotely etc Setup is pretty painless. Failed to pair one device once and after trying again it paired.Read full review

These work, you do get the occasional failure, but not life or death.

works out of the box, and with Alexa. Simple to set up with IFTT switching on and off lights at sunset and using a timer is a breeze
