P ivi Hoikkala earned her Ph.D. in history at Arizona State University, with a focus on Native American history and the history of women and the American West. She lectures in the History Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her most recent publication, "Native American History and Culture," appeared in the Oxford Encyclopedia of American Social History . Eileen V. Wallis completed her Ph.D. in history at the University of Utah. She teaches in the history department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where she received a Provost's Teacher-Scholar Award for 2013-2014. Her research interests include California and the American West; the Progressive Era; public history; U.S. women's history; and agricultural and environmental history.
