Gripping from start to finish
Imagine being a fly on the wall at a WW2 meeting where the final solution is unveiled to a group of high-level Nazis. Your blood will run cold as they chat about gas chambers over drinks and lunch. The most important war film ever made
This is the third dvd of this film I have owned. The previous copies were loaned to friends and were then passed through their family and friends as a “must see” film - I never actually got them back. Quite simply, it is possibly the best WW2 film ever made as it provides an enormous warning from history. It depicts no violence (apart from a slapped face) and involves a party of cultured individuals, including lawyers, senior politicians and army officers taking part in what resembles a high level board meeting. What they discuss and agree on is the strategy for the organised genocide that became known as the holocaust. The meeting actually happened and is known as the Wannsee Conference after the Berlin suburb in which it was held - this was the winter of 1942 when the German army was beginning to become unstuck on the Russian front. The script was written around the one surviving copy of the minutes of that meeting. The acting of Branagh and the company is superb and Colin Firth is outstanding- the (mainly British) cast seem to pull out the performance of their careers and Stanley Tucci is perfect as the pedantic creep Eichmann. I have watched this film many times as it is almost impossible to accept that so called sophisticated members of the human race could collectively sit around a table in a magnificent house, eat from a buffet, quaff expensive wine and discuss the stats related to the expected through- put of the gas chambers and industrialised crematoria. It could be the most shocking film you will ever see and just has a haunting Schubert soundtrack that fits perfectly. Please see it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

A must for modern history buffs.
I remember watching this for our a level course work in history I’m so glad to have been able to get this I understand more about the meeting now from when I did my a levels.
