The random pieces of styrofoam likely prevented major damage in shipping, but there was nothing to protect the screen or acrylic case from scratches, especially since the item was so dirty. But it wasn't just dirt - the seller didn't disclose that the item was actually badly nicotine stained, and this was not apparent from the photos. When I contacted the seller, he basically said he was doing me a favor to sell the thing to me.
