The actuator worked as it should. All the doors and boot now lock again, and as an added bonus, the petrol filler flap is also working!It stopped working last year, so I bought a locking filler cap as a cheap alternative to repairing the filler flap.I would think that's something for other Smart car owners to look out for, as a warning that the actuator is failing.Another thing, this brand new part from Mercedes was cheaper than the second hand listings! Result.
