Shenmue is a game I've always been interested in, but finally being able to play it I can say it's an absolutely compelling adventure. If you need a game that shows you just what the Dreamcast was capable of when pushed to its limits, this is it. The game is admittedly a bit of a slow burn, but its structure and story keep this game in my mind whenever I'm not playing it. Real life becomes 'time spent not playing Shenmue', and that's the right kind of game an RPG should be. Highly recommended.

For what Shenmue offers,it's one of the best titles of its time.Available for the Sega Dreamcast, this game puts you in the shoes of a young man named Ryo.Attempting avenge the death of his father, who died at the hands of a mysterious Chinese man. For newer gamers,it would be easy to bypass this game as an interesting quirk on a lost system. For those in the "know",they see this game for exactly what it is. A forerunner to all open ended games to come. Shenume was obviously ahead of it's time, and only in retrospect,do I believe the educated gamer really see's how much of an impact Shenmue has had on the world of gaming. Shemue was the first of the "blockbuster" games to hit the market.Sadly, the sales did not reflect this and in the end the fans have suffered.I highly recommend Shenmue to anyone looking for a great gaming experince on their Sega Dreamcast. This is a title that has turned ripe with age.Read full review
The reason I wanted this game is what people talked how wonderful this is on the internet and when I plauyed it, I love this one. It had the best graphics what the Sega Dreamcast could do. it had wonderful detailed textures and weather system on the open world of this game. the motion blur is excellent, not what you see in CGI films, but the art style how the game feels. In the passport version, these faces from each character have the best polygons that the dreamcast has nothing done before. The story may feel seem fimialr when Ryo decides to avenge his father's death, howvever once you play this game, it will give you any major and optional wisdoms and twists and turns. The realistic hub world is what stands out! It had some major and optional cutscenes that will suck you in. When playing in this setting, there is a lot of creativity by Yu Suzuki. You can practice any japanese martial art moves to engane in a free battle, once you get used with the controls(though it feels realistic in this game), play with the mini games that contain QTE, darts, and arcade ports like Hang on and Space harrier, and search any place just like Sherlock Holmes, etc. Dragons lair may have been the first game to have QTE, but Shenmue is the actually the first game with pressing buttons during important cinematic cutscenes. The soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro fits the atmophere perfectly, whethger its slow and emotional, fast paced excitement, asian cultures,or different background tracks. My complaint that i would like to say is that sometimes the voice acting can be laughable at times(on the good side, it's part of the charm, but sometimes it dosen't. You might be thinking that this game might bore you to death. Technically i can agree, but i find this game engaging, and like i said before this enviroment sucks you in dewpending on characters, story, and culture. VERDICT If you want something different that still holds up even today, then this game if for you.Read full review
THIS GAME PLAYS LIKE IT WAS DEVELOPED IN THE YEAR 2015, SENT BACK IN TIME TO THE YEAR 1999 AND BLEW THE DOORS OF THE GAMING WORLD INTO TINY LITTLE PIECES. In a time when gaming was taking its 1st baby steps into the 3D world Shenmue was released on the Sega Dreamcast. It firmly planted it's foot in the ground and became the greatest adventure the gaming world had seen. It's grim tale of Ryo Hazuki's thirst for Revenge against the man who killed his father in front of him, Shenmue gives players a cinematic story and FANTASTIC visuals that were FAR, FAR ahead of its time. You could take this game and stand it next to any game from 2014 and it would still be as good as the game from this year. A game that was released 15 years ago is still on par with games of today. Shenmue is and has always been one of my favorite games and one of the absolute best games I have ever played. With a magnificent soundtrack as well as exact city replicas of Japan. Shenmue is a 10/10 game that will have you on the edge of your seat and have your mind blown.Read full review
