Complete and down to earth
I am a massive fan of Monty Don but recent readings of Alan Titchmarsh has found him with a very down to earth approach and basic, simple advice. He also has a brilliant sense of humour and I find this lightens everything. Great reference book.

Great for first time gardeners and those wanting some extra advice.
I'm new to gardening and this book has helped with so many aspects, ranging from the perfect lawn to growing your own veg. It's been very useful at setting up a garden, especially what plants to buy for my soil and sunlight status. I would recommend this book to anyone, from first time gardeners or for people wanting general garden advice.

Straightforward informative - the perfect book for a gardening novice
I had this book as a wedding gift and I have read it cover to cover many times and am always returning to it. I encouraged a colleague at work with her garden and she had got the bug. Unfortunately she has a back injury and has been confined to bed for a few weeks so instead of sending flowers I sent this book and she loves it too. She has devoured it and spent her bed rest redesigning her garden.
