To start off the build quality of the Denon dvd-3910 is very impressive. Built like a tank and weighing in at 20+ pounds this thing screams top notch quality all the way. This replaced a Denon dvd-2910 in my main system to compliment my Denon avr-3806 receiver. I didn't know what to expect as far as the sound quality compared to the old unit but I was completely blown away. The sound that came through the speakers (Cerwin Vega S-1's) was simply amazing. Could not believe what a difference there was. The Denon dvd-3910 is all that and a bag of chips. I bought this strictly as a CD player and will never use it for video play so I can't comment on the quality of the picture although I don't believe it would be terrible. The first cd I played in the dvd-3910 was an SACD (super audio) disc of Pink Floyd DSOTM Unbelievable! There is no comparison between the 2910 and the 3910. The 3910 blows the 2910 away in every way possible. If you want to upgrade your system find one of these Denon dvd-3910's and don't look back. This is one investment your ears will thank you for. Now, how do I get my friends to leave? Read full review

I first bought a 2910 which skipped a lot and the DVD tray would not open due to a bad belt design. Then I bought this 3910 which plays beautifully when you can get it to read a disc. I like Denon products, but these things are not meant for the long haul! I just listen to SACD's and regular CD's not DVD's with this player. For what these players cost retail, they should last 20 years.

I have owned this unit since 2006 when it replaced a McIntosh MCD 7000 whose laser had gone bad and for which a replacement was not available. I tried several supposedly "top of the line" units in my system on consignment, and none gave me the sound I knew and loved. I went back to the dealer to try the Three Tenors in Concert (Los Angeles) CD in this unit and instantly knew it was the unit for my system. The two tracks I played were Placido Domingo singing "Granada" followed by Luciano Pavarotti singing "Non ti Scordar di Me." It was the sound I was used to, and it was as if the tenors were right in the room. When I connected the unit into my system, the sound, if anything, was better than it had been in the audio store listening room. The music room in my home had been turned into a concert venue. What makes this unit particularly useful is its ability to play DVD-A, CD and SACD recordings. I have picked up a number of the hybrid RCA/BMG Living Stereo CDs, and this one plays the SACD layer with no problem, producing a sound very close to a super-clean copy of the original lp with none of the surface noise problems that often plagued those early pressings. I have a couple of DVD-A recordings - same thing. It also does very well with JVC XRCDs and Mobile Fidelity CDs. No matter what the format, if it is on disc, it is playable in this machine. I have not used it to play video recordings, but I feel it will do the job just as well. The only drawback for me, the reason I gave it 4 stars, is that the original laser failed after only 3 years, a time I consider very short but long enough for it to be out of warranty and a fairly hefty $300+ repair fee came out of my pocket to repair it. Denon was not willing to pick up any part of the cost of this repair. However, the sound I get from this unit is so good that I have been willing to let this go. I believe you will have to spend a LOT more money than I did to get a unit that does a better job of making the music come alive, and given the flexibility of this unit and its ability to do so many things so well, if you can this unit at a decent price, don't hesitate to buy it.Read full review
This is one awesome piece of gear. The video is such that you feel like you can actually reach in and touch the scenery. There is total detail and crispness to the images. The colors are vivid and bright without being overwhelming. All in all it seems to provide an excellent reproduction of an actual movie theater release. The unit has sufficient outputs to satisfy even the most discriminating videophiles. The audio is phenomenal. I cannot fathom the need for an HD dvd player... just how much better can it be? Personally I see these units (I tried one in my main video room playing through a Seleco front projection 90 inch curved screen system with a Faroudja processor and then purchased a second one for my 50 inch plasma in the bedroom) being an integral part of my video system for years to come. Kudos to Denon... Again!!!Read full review
Since, I am an electronic tech and do repairs, mods and upgrades I have found this player to be a great one to do mods and upgrades too. Unlike some overly designed players either CD or DVD or Universal this one has plenty of room to work and thus can be made to sound much better. The one thing I don't like about Denon is they only care about money only and do not care about keeping parts in stock to work on this unit, but with time I have found some of those too. These companies these days are terrible in my opinion. After the work sit back and enjoy the music. Have a Blessed Day and be safe.
