    This book outlines the history and growth of algorithms on high frequency trading in the financial markets put forth by Simons from the 1970s onward. Today, many believe that over 40% of the daily stock market volume is computer algorithmic trading. Simons took a scientific approach to understanding price movements. Dozens of firms managing tens of billions, hundreds of billions collectively, utilize algorithms and statistical arbitrage to make money in the markets. Fascinating read!

    Zuckerman’s book is “meh.”

    Zuckerman writes about Simon’s phenomenal success at Renaissance Technologies, but you will learn NOTHING about his firm’s algorithm that has made them the most successful fund in history. I learned a bit about their formula from an interview with Charlie Munger, who just passed away at 99, but learned very little in this book. Don’t expect to make any discoveries except for useless Markov Chain theory.
