Great first entry!
UFC Undisputed 2009 is a great start into the gaming industry for the UFC. As technical and in depth as UFC fights can be, THQ and EA did a great job of recreating it in a way that was easy to pick up and play. They included a great cast of fighters across the different weight classes, so you can always find a fresh match-up. The controls can seem a little overwhelming at first, but once you learn what moves are available in different situations, you can quickly become adept at them. The controls are very responsive and they are not too complex or over complicated. They're very simple actually. The career mode is pretty good, and is a good way to build your skills and learn the different techniques. The training, sparring, and logo applying can become a bit of a chore as you progress ... UFC Undisputed 2009 is a great start into the gaming industry for the UFC. The damage on the fighters is done pretty good even though all the cuts end up being pretty much the same. Moving around in the menus could have been better. The more you move through them, the more you realize just how long it takes to move from one option to the next. The soundtrack is good, as it consists of all of the songs you would normally hear during a UFC broadcast. Aside from that, you have to deal with the repetitive, short track list that has become all too familiar in EA Sports games over the past few years. The sound effect fit perfectly, and always add that extra layer of depth when you deliver that knockout blow. Overall, a great game. They did a great job executing the fighting mechanics, which is really bread and butter of the gaem anyway. I would recommend it for anyone who is a fan of the UFC and enjoys video games, especially if you particularly enjoy fighting games. I can't wait to see how they can improve on this in the next installment. 9/10

It okay for non MMA fans
I bought this game thinking that it was going to be a game like fight night. But it is very different because of the fact that you have to learn the ground game. Most people don't even try to learn it and get mad when you take them down. The ground game gives you several option and strategies to put the hurt on your opponent. There are 6 different figting styles and each character comes with one striking style (Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai) and one grapple style (Brazilian Ju jitsu, Judo, Wrestling). Online play is often laggy, but a patch should be coming out soon to fix that problem. Other than that, if you like fighting games, I suggest that you give this game a rental first before buying it as it is not for everybody. MMA should definitely get this game because every aspect of MMA is ... I bought this game thinking that it was going to be a game like fight night. You'll want to ground-n-pound your current fight games!
This game is already a You Tube cult classic. MMA fans the world over are playing the current UFC headline fighters before every event...and its not even released yet! Thanks to a very close friend in the gaming world, we got the opportunity to "explore" this unreleased MMA(mixed martial arts) fight game(release date: June 2009). It's currently available for pre-order, but believe me...if you're a UFC fan, this game is worth the price tag and the wait. We got to play the UFC's event line ups on the night of UFC 92:Ultimate 2008. Okay, you'll have to be a huge MMA fan, like myself, to see how incredibly accurate and life like the fighters appeared in the game. Forrest Griffin had the same shorts, goofy haircut(see the game cover art above) and lanky swagger. Rampage Jackson's tattoos and ... This game is already a You Tube cult classic. Minotauro Nogeira and Frank Mir, all carbon copies to the real thing. The Octagon with all advertisements were an exact match. Commentators Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg were in place at ringside. Ring girls and referees just like the actual events. The stage was perfect and true to life. The controls still need to be tweaked out but were pretty user friendly. I would get into the actual control button set up but that would be a little lengthy. Just believe me, it's VERY USER FRIENDLY! i.e. only one button for a specific move. Each of the currently 80 some odd fighters has his own striking and grappling style. The right stick controlled the grappling and was simple to use with VERY LOW frustration factor...and I'm easily frustrated! Each strike is automatic depending on the distance to the opponent. Power was determined by the stamina of the fighter, fatigue plays a factor...just like in real life. There was constant action. Both fighters on the offensive at all times. True fluidity. Bottom line...a must have for all fight fans. A great fight game for all non fight fans. Playing this game is like a crash course into the real UFC and all it's great fighters. Plus, it's easy to use. Awesome graphics and true to life details. Commentary by Joe and Mike was a treat! UPDATE MAY 2009...NOW AVAILABLE!

UFC 2009 Undisputed has its fair share of issues for an up-start franchise, but that doesn’t mean that UFC fans and non-fans alike won’t have fun with the game once they get the complexities figured out. The career mode is fun and well-designed, the combat is cool and visually engaging, and the classic fights mode is sure to please UFC aficionados. If THQ can fix the blemishes and speed things up quite a bit so the physicality and true athleticism of the sport can shine through, we could have a serious contender on our hands.UFC 2009 Undisputed has its fair share of issues for an up-start franchise, but that doesn’t mean that UFC fans and non-fans alike won’t have fun with the game once they get the complexities figured out. A lot of control of your player, you use all 4 buttons, both triggers bumbers and joysticks to let your fighter have a stand up game with punches kicks clinches and your choice of boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai; the ground game is complete with transitions ground striking, and of course if you can spin the right stick well enough you can make your opponent tap out. This game has every fighter in the UFC along with a pretty fun career mode and historical "classic fights" mode that includes videos and allows you to rematch classic UFC fights like Griffin/Bonnar, Ortiz/Liddell 2, Jackson/Liddell, Penn/St. Pierre, Penn/Sherk, and 5 more that dont jump to the top of my head.
