About this product

Product Information

One of the world's leading scientists of food and nutrition reveals why so much of the current advice about food and nutrition is dangerously inaccurate, misleading and often downright wrong. *THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER* *LONGLISTED FOR THE ANDR SIMON FOOD AND DRINK BOOK AWARDS* The groundbreaking new book from Tim Spector, bestselling author of The Diet Myth and creator of the COVID Symptom Study app. 'Illuminating and so incredibly timely.' Yotam Ottolenghi We are all bombarded with advice about what we should and shouldn't eat, and new scientific discoveries are announced every day. Yet the more we are told about nutrition, the less we seem to understand. Through his pioneering scientific research, Tim Spector has been shocked to discover how little good evidence there is for many of our most deep-rooted ideas about food. In a series of short, myth-busting chapters, Spoon-Fed reveals why almost everything we've been told about food is wrong. Spector explores the scandalous lack of good science behind many medical and government food recommendations, and how the food industry holds sway over these policies and our choices. Spoon-Fed is a groundbreaking book that forces us to question every diet plan, official recommendation, miracle cure or food label we encounter, and encourages us to rethink our whole relationship with food. Diet may be the most important medicine we all possess. We urgently need to learn how best to use it, not just for our health as individuals but for the future of the planet. 'One of the clearest and most accessible short nutrition books I have read- refreshingly open-minded, deeply informative and free of faddish diet rules.' Bee Wilson, Guardian 'This book should be available on prescription.' Felicity Cloake, Literary Review

    Really important book

Really fascinating and evidence based discussion on our current food/drink choices and the myths that have encouraged them. I am eating to encourage my gut bacteria (especially fermented foods and red wine!) and feeling much better for it..I am convinced the brain is effected by what you eat and hope the new evidence grows and is used by our health services …really important book and all GPs should be taught this.

  • An excellent read, very informative.

A lot of food for thought, covered a lot of dietary problems which causes a lot of concerns such as additives in processed foods. Will definitely be a useful guide for the future to obtain a healthy lifestyle, the twelve point plan will be observed very strictly.

  • Real ‘food for thought’!

Very easy, common-sense approach to the subject and this makes enjoyable reading, and provides much ‘food for thought’!

  • Rethink your food

A compelling read, shattering current myths about food, and producing the evidence to back up the case. So much of our popular views of food are influenced by global industrial food producers who spend millions on marketing, skewed research and and influencing government policy. Tim Spector gets to the heart of the issue that “one size fits all” is misguided, and helps to guide us on how to make good individual choices in our food.

  • At last a diet book without faddish ideas, instead it encourages us to make the changes we need for better health

If anyone wants to eat more healthily read this - start treating food as nutrition not fuel. And why the food industry blames the obesity crisis on a lack of exercise - blaming us and not about the dubious contents of its ultra processed items marketed with health benefits.
