The sequel to developer Volition's first-person sci-fi shooter moves away from the setting found in the original Red Faction. Instead of exploring labyrinthine caverns from within an underground mining colony on Mars, players roam futuristic cities on Earth. An evil dictator named Sopot has condemned the player's character (Alias) to death, along with a handful of other soldiers, for inciting a rebellion. It doesn't take long before the group breaks free, thus beginning the arduous task of reclaiming Earth's freedom from a totalitarian regime. <br><br>Attempting to prevent this from happening are armies of cyborg soldiers, spider mines, sentry droids, and other enemies, but players have an advantage missing from the first game: five brothers-in-arms fighting as a team. The teammates, Tangier, Repta, Quill, Shrike, and squad leader Molov, each demonstrate distinct abilities and personalities as they fight. Quill is a quiet soldier who is an expert sniper, for example, while Shrike is a rowdy braggart. The soldiers are automatically under computer control, so players do not have to worry about issuing commands or planning out intricate strategies. <br><br>The situation dictates what each teammate will do in a particular mission. Sometimes a squad member will drive one of the several different vehicles and aircraft as players provide the firepower, while other times they will follow and offer cover fire. The Geo-Mod engine from the first game is present in this version as well, allowing players to destroy buildings and shape the terrain using an assortment of high-powered weapons, including submachine guns, assault rifles, and grenade launchers. Veteran actor Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Millennium) provides the voice of Molov, and up to four players can battle each other on a split screen.<br><br>Originally developed for the PlayStation 2 by Volition, this Xbox port was handled by THQ's internal development team at Outrage Games. Enhancements made over the PlayStation 2 version include increased texture resolution in the environments, exclusive multiplayer maps, and new character models. The storyline, modes of play, and features are otherwise the same. Outrage Games also ported Red Faction II to the PC platform in addition to the Xbox.

    Decent, but no 720p makes it look cropped on my monitor

    Well I had this game on PS2 when it first came out, and its probably the best example of an overlooked shooter that is beautiful. The single player does not hold up the test of time too well, but the multiplayer, in my opinon, is the best fps multiplayer we've ever played. The features are simple and fun, there are many weapons and of course its 60 fps ... and theres GEOMOD. dont know what geomod is ? look it up, I cant believe all these next gen games come out and they dont even have this technology implemented. Destroy any environment that can be destroyed, in real time. So if you're behind a wall, I just blow a hole through the wall ( each hole will be different depending etc. ) and then I shoot you. If I blow the supports on a piller, down it goes. etc etc. great game. underrated and ...

    Great game...a classic

    I have this game on Playstation 2 and Xbox and absolutely love it. You really need to have it on both, due to the differences in the multiplayer gameplay. I like it because it is fun, not very realistic, but fun. If you are looking for an awesome first-person shooter that involves a lot of guns, violence, and mayhem, this is a game for you.

    great game

    Finally, a use for my super old xbox. So glad the thing still works, considering the xbox 360 only plays a limited number of original xbox games.

    Fantastic

    This is a hard video game to find and what at excellent price. one of my favorite games for the first xbox, its sad that new games cant be made in the same way as RF2 multiplayer on how you could customize and edit everything about the computer players you can play against.

    Fration of 1

    If you planed on and are hoping it will be the same as the first you are way off. I got half way through and I had to stop because it really is no where near as good as the first. It's actually harder than the first. It's a good shooter, but don't hold many expectations to it.
