About this product

Product Information

25th anniversary edition of this cherished story of love, loss, war and heroism - from one of our bestselling authors 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION - WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR 'A true diamond of a novel, glinting with comedy and tragedy' Daily Mail It is 1941 and Captain Antonio Corelli, a young Italian officer, is posted to the Greek island of Cephallonia as part of the occupying forces. At first he is ostracised by the locals but over time he proves himself to be civilised, humorous - and a consummate musician. When Pelagia, the local doctor's daughter, finds her letters to her fiance go unanswered, Antonio and Pelagia draw close and the working of the eternal triangle seems inevitable. But can this fragile love survive as a war of bestial savagery gets closer and the lines are drawn between invader and defender? 'Louis de Berni res is in the direct line that runs through Dickens and Evelyn Waugh...he has only to look into his world, one senses, for it to rush into reality, colours and touch and taste' Evening Standard

The book was described as in very good condition but I would decribe it as average/good as best. Spine was well wirn and book has come apart when reading it. I’m fussy with the spines of books and try not to damage them when reading. However, I have bought several books from this seller before and have not had any problems previously.

Holiday read for the island of Cephalonia

Wanted to read this on location Cephalonia is lovely the book is a bit of a slow to start. Jumps about between the various characters setting the scene but stick with it it's worth a read. And quite a large book might be my instability read would normally expect to get through 2/3 paperbacks.

  • Most critical review

Too long winded and badly presented boring details not necessary to plot of story.

  • Compelling story based on true facts that actually happened on Kephalonia.

Good condition. I'm just replacing a worn out copy. The only book I have read four times.

  • Great story

Had already read this book, lent it to a friend and didn't get it back! Bought it again to read again, love the film but book, as usual, is so much better.

  • Books in good nick!

I haven't yet started this book, so can't give any feedback, other than to say the book is in eminently readable condition.
