too pompously sophisticated for it to be readable or useful
I learned abstract algebra from videos on YouTube. This book is impossible before I did the video and after the videos on YouTube, I thought I knew the subject well. Went back to the book...unnecessarily wordy and purposely pompous. The author and his father are Harvard math professors who contributed a lot to the field of abstract algebra...they aren't such great teachers or book writers. Believe me this book is quite unusable to learn from or even using it as a reference bookI learned abstract algebra from videos on YouTube.
