About this product

Product Information

Beginning as a neophyte in the world of professional poker, gamers play through a story-based rise to virtual fame, and ultimately receive an invitation to the World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions. As the protégé of Chris Ferguson, players must prove their skills in circuit events to qualify for the Tournament of Champions. Beginning poker sharks can visit the "Hold’Em and Fold’Em" tutorial before trying their hand at the real deal. Throughout the "Story" mode, gamers are challenged by real-life poker buffs including Joseph Hachem, Scott Fischman, and Mark Seif, as well as Academy Award nominee (and World Series of Poker bracelet holder) Jennifer Tilly. As players progress, they unlock "poker tools" that let them check odds and track an opponent's behavior stats during gameplay. Online competition supports multi-table games for up to 21 players.

Item arrived quickly and as described. It functions perfectly and was not damaged in transit despite the poor packaging of the item. I was honestly a little annoyed to have paid $5 for shipping on a $2 stamp, but it’s still a decent total price and made for an excellent gift. Don’t take my comments negatively; I would buy from this seller again and do recommend others consider this seller as well!

I use a shipping rate for Canada which is the same price no matter which game you buy. The Nintendo DS game that you bought happens to be extremely light. For 95%+ of the games, the shipping price makes sense. However, some games are heavier and some games are lighter than the average - so there is an aspect of fluctuation that I account for. But you're right about the total price, that's what matters, I also currently have "Best Offer" on - so you can always make an offer to get a better price.

  • Just plain fun

Assuming you already know how to play poker, there isn't much of a learning curve here. The interface is intuitive and really there isn't too much need for a manual. The gameplay mechanics work pretty well. There are a few annoyances, such as when you make a decision such as "fold," your player will sit there playing with his chips for a while before folding. Stop playing with your chips, and fold already! I realize it's for visual effect, but it happens way way too often, and it gets incredibly annoying when you just want the game to move on. The AI seems good, though I'm no poker expert. Some of the characters really do play like the pros, as they play fairly aggressively compared to a lot of newbies who play online (for real money). Graphics are severely disappointing and are PS2/Xbox ...

  • World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions -- 2007

Pros: Easy to find and join an online game, gameplay is easy, AI players change play (bluffing, etc) Cons: Announcers become an annoyance after repeating same comments multiple times per game. Players sneeze constantly. Gameplay is slow and unexciting. Summary: Seems like no testing was done prior to release. Not a fun game, I give all aspects average rating.

  • World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions

We're at a juncture now with poker games, where providing a decent online mode and a lengthy career mode isn't quite enough to sell an entire package. With games starting to step it up in the AI category, it's time for all poker games to get smarter and not rely on the same robotic AI routines that don't emulate how people really play. And as far as presentation goes, it's not enough to just trot out a bunch of pro players, some licensed commentators, and camera support and call it a day. The PS2 and PSP already have a gaggle of poker games available that offer roughly the same features that Tournament of Champions does. On the 360, your only option at the moment may be the single-player-bereft and bare-bones Texas Hold 'Em for Live Arcade, but at least that game costs four times less than ...

  • I Laak this game and you will too Nguyen you play it!

I have health issues which keeps me shut in sometimes for days at a time. I find this not only keeps me entertained, but it keeps me company. Phil Laak is respectful of his opponents. Jennifer Tilley tries to distract with some snipey comments. Scotty Nguyen is amusing with his cute remarks. My avatar looks and sounds just like me, though I have created some alternates for variety. There are several levels of tournament play, and numerous locations with additional options to be earned. Some tournaments will let anyone in, and hundreds of players are involved. Some players are ficticious, some we all know. I'm down half a million dollars so far, but I'm having a great time. This game is a great palate cleanser between the slam-slime-bang-flash-jump of the more active games. Choices allow for ...
