First, I'm ecstatic because I got this huge Marvel-centric tome for $19--including free shipping & handling. As I type this review, I've only made it through the first 15 pages or so. Based on what I've seen so far, I'm very impressed. The fact that anyone who buys books like this should realize is that what may be current at the time of publication may be outdated a year (or less) after its release. This is naturally due to the fact of dynamic, ongoing stories and changes in a characters' or series "status quo." For anyone who wants to know "who's who" and "what's what" in the Marvel Comics Universe, this book is a great guide. Readers may find some interesting factoids about characters they're familiar with, in addition to those unfamiliar to them. While not being the "definitive" book that goes into every little detail, this book is a nice, thick summary & it will keep one occupied for hours or days (depending on one's mileage). I'm sure the same can be said of the DC Universe Encyclopedia, as well. I will likely purchase it in the near future, especially if I can purchase it for less than $25. I'm sure that both the Marvel & DC encyclopedias are great additions to any collection of superhero comics and related memorabilia.Read full review

I thought it was new but it had no dust cover so now I have 2 of the same books with dust covers & one with out & they were bought for gifts so now I have to explain y one doesn’t have a dust cover & the packaging was like a rats nest u would find in a car & got all over my house

I am 64 and read comics in the 50's and 60's , this will help you catch up. Excellent book. Far more than I expected. Hardcover and a very low price, but not low quality. Every collector or just avid reader doesn't just want, but needs this book.

My only gripe with this book is that there is no mention of Dead Pool. I am not sure why he is not mentioned in this book. He is very popular among the Marvel Fans. This book was part of a Christmas gift and the first super hero he wanted to read about was not put in this book.
