The title of this film explains what women of color have to do to get home from their place of employment.

If a person is unsure about the segregation issue during the 1950s and 1960s, THE LONG WALK HOME DVD realistically shows the social issues in the South. Sissy Spacek, realistically, shows how much she cares for Whoopi Goldberg's character. She wants Whoopi Goldberg's and other characters to be comfortable when the women are going to their places of employment. Whoopi Goldberg and other women have to walk miles to arrive at their place of employment, instead of "riding in the back of the bus." The women boycott riding on buses, which is their mode of transportation to their employment. Spacek's driving women to their places of employment creates tension in her household. Many other women drive women to their place of employment. The "tension" in THE LONG WALK HOME is not entertaining. ...

  • The long walk home

The long way back home with a very good movie very realistic! Sissy Spacek and whoopi Goldberg did a excellent job. See how mean people can be. And that one person that makes all the difference. Would watch a second time!

  • The Long Walk Home

This wonderful story revolves around the lives of two women, a fairly affluent white housewife whose husband holds a place of postion in their Southern community, and the black housekeeper who works for the white couple and also has a family of her own. The film in beautifully acted by Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg in the lead roles, and the theme is timeless - a tale of conscience, of daring to buck the System to follow one's heart, and of the struggle for recognition and personhood. I gave it five stars after renting it from Netflix and then I bought it, just had to own it.

  • A MUST SEE MOVIE

THIS MOVIE IS THE BEGINNING OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. IT IS THE STORY OF 2 WOMEN WHO ARE ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE COLOR ISSUE BUT INCREDIBLY BOTH STRUGGLING TO FIND THEMSELVES INSIDE. THEY HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER & A UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR DIFFERENCES BUT THEY FIND THEMSELVES STANDING IN THE SAME LINE TOGETHER FIGHTING FOR THE SAME THINGS. IT ALSO INCLUDES THE UNDERSTANDING OF 1 CHILD TO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND AT THE TIME BUT OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT IS NEVER LEAVES HER THE REST OF HER LIFE & INFLUENCES HER LIFE CHOICES. WHOOPI GOLDBERG & SISY SPACEK ARE SO BELIEVABLE IN THEIR ROLES THAT YOU TEND TO FORGET THEY ARE THE ACTRESSES & NOT THE ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT LIVED THESE ROLES. IT ALSO GIVES EVERYONE THAT GLIMPSE INTO THE BEGINNING OF ROSA PARKS CHOICE THAT CHANGES ...

  • History Lesson in Civil Rights Movement

This movie is an excellent reminder of the struggles encountered by the black people in the south. They faced many restrictions while trying to live their daily lives. Everything from drinking fountains, restaurants, busses, schools and rest rooms had some sort of "segregated law' attached. With Dr. Luther Kings' non-violent protests the rightful changes were won by the blacks and this movie reveals a small victory after much heartache, pain, and physical and mental abuse. To get a sense of the start of the Civil Rights Movement watch this film.
