One of only a few choices to convert a Road bike to Flat Bar
My wife wanted a more upright position on here Tarmac Road bike and she pointed to folks riding flat bar bikes as an option she perceived to be more comfortable for her. She is now riding more bike trails 5-15 miles and not longer 30-50 miles rides she did in the past. I sat about looking for a set of shifters to convert a 10-speed Dura-ace bike to flat bars. I have to say, my research turned up few good choices, and pointed to Tiagra SL-4600-R as perhaps the only choice, so I obtained a set of shifters. The shifters do work pretty darn well and were easy to install and setup. In that respect these might be closer to 4.5-5 stars. What sort of shocked me was the pricing was much higher than I expected for this style of shifter. It also requires that brake lever assemblies be ... I have the bike assembled and operating, but am not particularly happy with the fit of the brakes I installed as they don't "match" the color of the shifters and do not fit together with them in a tight integrated fashion. Maybe I need to find some units more specifically matched to the shifters. Overall, I am happy with this conversion. Like I said, they function very well and the shifts are crisp, the effort to change "up" a gear seems slightly high, downshifts are of course effortless.
