    Great 1950s Chick Flick

This is a very entertaining retro story about three old friends living in what appears to be a wealthy suburb of Boston or another large city. The friends are Ann Southern, Linda Darnell and Jeanne Crain. On their way to a summer camp outting, they receive a telegram from another “friend,” Addie Ross, informing them she’s run off with one of their husbands. As all three review their marriages (and mistakes they might have made.). Directed by the great Joseph Mankiewiez, it is a real treat.

  • FILM MAKING AT ITS' BEST....RARELY SEEN TODAY!

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE FILMS (1949) IN WHICH ALL PARTS COME TOGETHER TO MAKE A COMPLETE WHOLE. THIS WAS OFTEN THE CASE DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. THE HEIRESS. ALSO MADE THE SAME YEAR IS ANOTHER GOOD EXAMPLE. GREAT DIRECTOR, SCRIPT WRITERS, MUSICAL DIRECTION, CASTING, SETS, COSTUMES, IT JUST ALL WORKS BEAUTIFULLY, AND THE FINAL PRODUCT SHOWS IT. A JOY TO SEE AND HEAR! ALL IN GLORIOUS PRISTINE BLACK AND WHITE. SEEING THIS FILM ON THE BIG SCREEN WOULD GIVE IT A PROPER JUSTICE THAT EVEN A LARGE SCREEN TELEVISION CANNOT APPROACH. STILL, DEFINITELY BETTER THAN WHAT IS GENERALLY AVAILABLE ON TELEVISION AND THE MOVIES THESE DAYS. LINDA DARNELL, JEANNE CRAIN, AND ANN SOTHERN, ARE WELL MATCHED IN THEIR COMPLEMENTARY ROLES. THELMA RITTER GIVES HER CAUSTIC CHARM TO THIS ONE AS WELL AS THE NEXT ...

  • Which Wife Got The Dreaded Letter--A Best Picture Offer

Three female friends who go on a day trip with some underprivileged children all get a letter from another female acquaintance that she has run off with one of their husbands. The movie is narrated by the unseen letter writer, Addie Ross, played by Celeste Holm. And so the three stories of their marriages become the heart and soul of the movie. Deborah (Jeanne Crain) grew up on the poor side of a distant town but married an up and coming businessman Brad (Jeffrey Lynn), whom she never feels that she is worthy of. She constantly feels like he will leave her even though he constantly reassures her of his love. Rita (Ann Sothern) is a rising radio executive who plans a big dinner for her bosses. Her husband George (Kirk Douglas) is resentful of her career which eclipses his as a ...

  • A Letter to Three Wives (DVD, 2005)

I,m a fan of award winning 1950's movies. I'm pleased with the three actress's Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell & Ann Southerland. Showing a husband & wife returning from the war was not only unusual but interesting to see them pick up where they left off in the community & with old friends. Has drama & suspense. Fast paced. I also enjoyed the special features section on this DVD. A nice addition to my collection at an affordable price.

  • Oldies but goodies

I love these old movies! The female characters are beautiful. Each time i watch it i forget the ending and am always pleased and surprised.
