About this product

Product Information

Gnasty Gnorc was never taken seriously throughout his life. After all, it's not easy being ugly in a land filled with beautiful jewels and majestic dragons. So he started to dabble in magic, hoping to learn something that would make those dragons pay. He found it. Gnasty developed the perfect spell to cast over the peaceful land, turning all of those snooty dragons into crystal statues.

He even managed to transform some of the jewels into soldiers that would do his bidding! The magic wasn't perfect, however: Gnasty somehow missed a young dragon named Spyro. Now Spyro, along with his dragonfly companion Sparx, must embark on a quest to free his friends from captivity.

Take to the skies as a little purple dragon in this 3D action-adventure game by the developers of Disruptor. Spyro and dragonfly Sparx must travel to different worlds in order to end Gnasty's nefarious plans. Thirty free-roaming levels await players of all ages, and special treasure rounds will put their flying skills to the test. In total, there are 80 dragons to free, 10,000 pieces of treasure to find, and 12 mysterious Dragon Eggs to collect.

If so, you'll be able to traverse the following six areas: Artisans World, where you'll begin the game, is a world filled with rolling green hills, huge castles and several pillars to glide on; Peace Keepers offers desert-like terrain, enormous canyons and steep cliffs; Magic Crafters surrounds you with ice-capped mountains and sky platforms to leap from; Beast Makers consists of murky swamps, treetops and villages; Dream Weavers contains dark tunnels, haunted towers and bubbling lava; and Gnasty's World, your final destination, is where you'll be able to finally settle the score.

Spyro the Dragon also supports the Dual Shock Analog Controller so you can feel every hit, gallop and jump during your adventure. As the dragon, you'll be able to perform eight different moves: run, walk, glide, charge, roll, breathe fire, jump and fly. Players can also grab either the Fireball or Super Flame power-up to really make their enemies "feel the burn."

Music was composed by former Police band member Stewart Copeland and Spyro's speech is performed by Carlos Alazraqui, the voice behind Taco Bell's 1998 Chihuahua commercials. Many secrets and hidden areas are waiting to be discovered, but don't get too distracted -- your friends need you!

    LOVE THIS GAME

I used to play this game every day as a child. :) so when we went and bought a PS3, it was common sense to search for my old childhood favorite PS3 game. I was bouncing in anticipation for the set of three to arrive at my door. When it was delivered, I immediately tore the package open and shoved one in and started it up. It was nostalgic. I loved every moment of it. Definitely worth the money to buy it.

  • Enjoyable Fantasy Game

Spyro the Dragon is one of the few games you will always remember from PS1. This game brings you into a rich, colorful, fantasy dragon world. While the gameplay is vary simple and start forward, There are a few challenges even the skilled gamer would find difficult. When you start off, you must meet a set goal to open new realms and some sub realms. Each realm of the dragon world features a hand full of sub realms in witch you must collect gems and free dragons. Once you have the right amount of gems or freed dragons, you can advance trough the game. Overall, no matter how old you are, this game is alot of fun and enjoyable. I give this game a 8 OUT OF 10

  • Worth Your Money

The first of the Spyro trilogy and was successful by game reviews when the game first hit the stores in 1998. No one knew what to expect from the new game, but it actually made a name for it self. I completed this game about 3 times and it was excellent, not as amazing as the two following games for Spyro in the Playstation 1 era, but it's still just as enjoyable as the other 2 are. It was a simple game with good story line, but if you played the other two Spyro games already, you would find many things lacking in the first Spyro game, but remember it was the first of the series and the problems with the first game and or lacking of depth for mini games were greatly improved in the second one and praised in the third one. I would still purchase this game, it's great experience to see how ...

  • Awesome game.

I'm a huge fan of the Spyro series but I will not be biased in my review of this game. This game is amazing. It was a very early made PS1 game and brilliantly flaunted the PS1's 3D graphics capabilities. They were amazing in such a time. The game's story line is OK, though not amazing. The game's main focus is on the fun factor and game play. The game play is awesome. I remember first playing it and having so much fun ramming the sheep or burning them. The controls are so easy to use and learn. The Graphics are great (in comparison to others in it's time). The game is 3D. The camera view is also great, never causing a problem usually. You can easily control the camera with the L and R buttons to see around, if you're having any problems. The worlds are all brilliantly colored and well ...
